Can Thermal Imaging Cameras (TIC) help your business?

The use of Thermal Imaging Cameras is on the rise. At Eiger we've seen an increasing amount of interest in Thermal Imaging Cameras and it's technology in Sussex, Surrey, London and the surrounding areas, due to what is happening around the world right now with COVID-19.

Historically, Thermal Imaging Cameras have been used by firefighters to detect areas of heat through smoke or darkness. They became a standard at UK airports back in 2003 when the SARs epidemic and also more recently an increase in installations in offices, education, business, and railway stations over the last 2 months.

Could Thermal Imaging become a useful tool to help create safer spaces and protect the economy in the future?

Businesses, offices and education are looking to future proof their properties and look ahead at how they can best protect their staff, children and customers and create a safer working environment and help with our current social distancing limitations whilst keeping their businesses running.

Dahua Technology launched the industry's latest thermal camera, which is capable of highly accurate body temperature measurement ±0.3℃ (with blackbody). With built-in AI algorithm, it can measure multiple persons temperature from up to 3-meter distance, enabling fast and non-contact access and acting as a fever screening. They have also been and early participant in the epidemic prevention and control in Asia, you can read more here or have a watch of the video below showing the camera in action.

Below are some of the benefits to this solution...

• Accurate temperature measurement, safe and effective.

• Non-contact screening, fast pass.

• Multi-person measurement, efficient access.

• Visual abnormal alert to facilitate back-tracking.

• Non-mask detection for the intelligent control.

As installer of this technology, please don't hesitate to contact Eiger if you think this technology could benefit your company and would like to discuss this further.

So how does Thermal Imaging Cameras work?

Businesses can put the cameras at the entrance to their property so every person who enters, walk's past a high-resolution thermal camera and the idea is that the camera should detect the persons body temperature and an alert is sent to a computer where someone is notified at a distance, if the person has an above-average temperature (which is a potential symptom of COVID-19).

The cameras are meant to be faster than normal temperature taking, more accurate and require no contact. So for the current virus crisis this may be an option to help get people back to work quicker.

It will be interesting to see over the next 6-12months how many businesses and companies jump on board with this technology and if it could become the new standard.

One business that has moved forward with Thermal Imaging is Amazon.com Inc. Reuters wrote an article here: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-amazon-com-cameras-idUSKBN2200HT
